Royalla Spectacular Meat Quality and Gains

Our genetics performed extremely well against a total of 76 teams.
A total of five (three Royalla teams and two from clients, the Goldsmith family of Coonamble) teams of purebred Shorthorn steers each of five steers were in the trial at Jindalee Feedlot.

Pen number 76 from Royalla was was placed third in the Riverine Premium Champion Pen. It is the top branded beef product for Teys Wagga Wagga, and to qualify all members of the team have to marble greater than MSA 400 (2 Ausmeat) as well as fitting the grid. Only six out of the 76 teams eligible qualified, and Royalla’s pen 76 was the only Shorthorn pen to qualify. A total of 16 out of 25 (64%) Royalla and Compton steers hit the Riverine Premium specs, compared to 165 from 400 (41.25%) overall.
The whole trial averaged 2.16 kg/day, while the Royalla and Compton steers averaged 2.34kg/day.

In the overall team placings for a combination of induction, feedlot and carcase performance the teams were placed 9th,14th, 16th, 19th and 22nd out of 76. This placed all five pens in the top 29%.
